Replicate API Pricing: Is Replicate Free or Expensive?
Replicate API pricing explained: how Replicate bills Seedance 2.0, Wan 3.0 Prime and Nano Banana, whether Replicate is free, and where the same models cost less.
Replicate API pricing follows two models at once. Its pricing page says some models are billed by hardware and time, and others by input and output, so the same account can pay per GPU-second on one model and per image or per video second on the next[1]. Whether Replicate is free or expensive depends on which of those you run.
This guide reads Replicate's own billing docs and the published price tiers on its official model pages for Seedance 2.0, Wan 3.0 Prime and Nano Banana, checked on October 5, 2026, and sets them next to reAPI's list prices for the same models[1][2][3]. reAPI is our product, so read its column knowing the source.
TL;DR
- Replicate API pricing has two shapes. Community models bill by hardware time; official models like Seedance and Nano Banana bill per output second or per image[1][3].
- Replicate is not free to run. Usage draws on prepaid credit or is billed monthly in arrears[2].
- On the models compared here, reAPI lists 10% to 89% lower, with the widest gaps on Nano Banana Pro and Seedance 2.0 Mini[3][4][5][6][7][8].
- A failed run is generally not charged on Replicate. Exceptions: a cancelled run on an official model can be charged, and a model that calls other models bills its run time plus downstream calls even when it fails[2].
How Replicate API pricing works
Replicate's pricing page puts it simply: you pay only for what you use. Most community models are billed by the time they take to run, at a per-second rate set by the hardware they use. Official models from companies such as ByteDance and Google publish their own price tiers instead, usually per second of output video or per output image, and the official model page lists each tier with the conditions that trigger it[1][3].
How you pay is a separate setting. Replicate's billing docs describe two arrangements: prepaid credit, where usage is deducted from a balance you buy first, and billing in arrears, where you are charged at the start of each month for the previous month. Accounts billed in arrears can be charged early the first time usage crosses certain limits, which Replicate says helps it catch fraud[2].
Is Replicate expensive? The same models, priced side by side
The Replicate figures are the tiers on each official model page for text and image input. The reAPI figures are the list prices on its model pages for requests without an uploaded reference video. Both were read on October 5, 2026[3][4][5][6].
Video models
| Model and resolution | Replicate | reAPI | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Seedance 2.0, 480p | $0.08/s | $0.072/s | −10% |
| Seedance 2.0, 720p | $0.18/s | $0.154/s | −14% |
| Seedance 2.0, 1080p | $0.45/s | $0.383/s | −15% |
| Seedance 2.0, 4K | $1.00/s | $0.780/s | −22% |
| Seedance 2.0 Fast, 480p | $0.07/s | $0.053/s | −24% |
| Seedance 2.0 Fast, 720p | $0.15/s | $0.113/s | −25% |
| Seedance 2.0 Mini, 480p | $0.04/s | $0.017/s | −57% |
| Seedance 2.0 Mini, 720p | $0.09/s | $0.036/s | −60% |
| Wan 3.0 Prime, 480p / 720p / 1080p | $0.068 / $0.14 / $0.28 per s | $0.057 / $0.116 / $0.232 per s | −16% / −17% / −17% |
For a 10-second 720p Seedance 2.0 clip, that is $1.80 on Replicate and about $1.54 on reAPI.
Image models
| Model and size | Replicate | reAPI | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nano Banana Pro, 1K / 2K | $0.15 | $0.030 | −80% |
| Nano Banana Pro, 4K | $0.30 | $0.033 | −89% |
| Nano Banana 2, 1K | $0.067 | $0.028 | −58% |
| Nano Banana 2, 2K | $0.101 | $0.038 | −62% |
| Nano Banana 2, 4K | $0.151 | $0.056 | −63% |
| Nano Banana 2 Lite | $0.034 | $0.015 | −56% |
The reAPI image figures are the Default variant on each model page[7][8][9]. Image gaps are wider than video gaps on this set: at 1,000 Nano Banana Pro images in 4K, the list totals are $300 on Replicate and $33 on reAPI.
What else affects a Replicate bill
Three billing rules sit outside the price table. Replicate's billing docs say a failed run is not charged. A run you cancel on an official model may still be charged. And a model that calls other models is billed for its run time plus the downstream models it called, and the same docs say this applies even when that model fails[2]. If your app cancels jobs often or uses pipeline models, check those cases in your own usage history.
Replicate's strengths are breadth and flexibility: thousands of community models, private models and deployments on the same account[1][2]. reAPI carries a narrower, curated catalog of image, video and chat models. If a model you depend on is only on Replicate, that settles it. For the models in the tables above, the per-unit gap is the deciding number.
FAQ
Is Replicate API free?
No. Calls to the Replicate API are billed at each model's rate, either from prepaid credit or monthly in arrears[1][2]. On reAPI, eligible new accounts may receive promotional test credits with no card required[4].
How much does Replicate cost?
It depends on the model. Community models bill by hardware time; official models publish per-output tiers. For example, Seedance 2.0 lists at $0.18 per second at 720p and Nano Banana Pro at $0.15 per image at 1K or 2K[1][3].
Is Replicate expensive?
For the models compared here, Replicate's list prices are 10% to 89% higher than reAPI's, with the biggest gaps on Nano Banana Pro and Seedance 2.0 Mini. Whether that is expensive for you depends on volume: at 1,000 Nano Banana Pro 4K images, the difference is $267[3][7].
Is Replicate AI legit?
Replicate publishes its pricing, billing rules and per-model price tiers, and supports both prepaid credit and monthly billing in arrears[1][2]. As with any provider, run a small paid test before moving production traffic.
What is Replicate API?
Replicate API lets you run machine learning models, including community and official image and video models, with an HTTP request. You pay per use, by hardware time or by input and output depending on the model[1].
Is Replicate AI down?
This article cannot show live status. Replicate's billing docs say failed runs are not charged, except for models that call other models, and that a cancelled run on an official model can still be charged[2].
Picking a model by Replicate API pricing
Replicate API pricing makes sense when you need its breadth or your own deployments. For the official models both platforms list here, though, the October 5, 2026 rate cards put reAPI 10% lower on Seedance 2.0 at 480p and up to 89% lower on Nano Banana Pro at 4K. Run the same prompts on both, compare outputs and totals, and move the models with the widest gap first. Prices on both sides change, so confirm them on each model page against current Replicate API pricing before you commit.
