Fal AI Pricing, Free Credits and a Cheaper Alternative

Fal AI pricing explained: what fal.ai charges for Seedance, Wan and Nano Banana, how its free credits work, and a cheaper alternative with lower list prices.

Fal AI pricing is pay-per-use: each model has its own rate, billed per image or per second of video, and drawn from prepaid credits. That makes the bill easy to start and hard to predict once you run several models. This guide lays out what fal.ai lists for Seedance, Wan 3.0 and Nano Banana on October 5, 2026, how its free credits and failed-request rules work, and where a cheaper alternative lists lower prices for the same models[1][2].

The alternative compared here is reAPI, which is our product, so read its column knowing the source. Every number below comes from the two platforms' public pages on the same day, and both sides change prices, so check them again before you move a budget.

TL;DR

  • Fal AI pricing is per model. Seedance 2.5 lists at roughly $0.2205, $0.4730 and $1.164 per second at 480p, 720p and 1080p; Nano Banana Pro at $0.15 per image, doubled at 4K[1].
  • The same models list 16% to 89% lower on reAPI, with the widest gaps on Nano Banana Pro and Seedance 2.0 Mini[1][4][5][6][7][8].
  • Fal free credits come as grants and coupons, with expiry between one week and one year; purchased credits expire after 365 days[2].
  • Fal does not charge for server errors, but a client-side error such as HTTP 422 can still be billed if GPU time was already spent[2].
  • New fal accounts run 2 requests at a time, rising automatically to 40 as you buy credits[2].

How fal AI pricing works

fal.ai sells two things: hosted model APIs and serverless GPUs for your own deployments. Model APIs are priced per output, either per image or per second of generated video, and some models also publish a token formula behind the per-second figure. GPU time for custom deployments is a separate hourly rate, listed from $2.49 per hour for an H100[1][3].

Three rules from fal's FAQ matter for the bill. Cold start time is not charged for Model API endpoints, only inference time. Server errors (HTTP 500 and above) are never charged. Client-side errors like invalid inputs (HTTP 422) may still be charged if a runner spent GPU time on the request before the error was detected[2]. If your pipeline sends many malformed requests, that last rule is where unexpected cost comes from.

Fal AI free credits and when they expire

fal does not list a standing free tier on its pricing page. Its FAQ says free credits and coupons are granted case by case, with expiry ranging from one week to one year depending on the grant, while purchased credits expire 365 days after purchase[2][3]. Check the billing dashboard for the exact balance and dates on your account.

On reAPI, eligible new accounts may receive promotional test credits with no card required, and paid credits are billed at 1 credit = $0.001[4].

Fal AI pricing vs a cheaper alternative, model by model

fal's video prices below are its own "roughly" per-second figures for text and image input. reAPI's are the list prices on its model pages for requests without an uploaded reference video. Both were read on October 5, 2026[1][4][5][6][7].

A 10-second 720p Seedance 2.5 clip works out to about $4.73 on fal and about $2.67 on reAPI at these rates.

Model and sizefal.aireAPIDifference
Nano Banana Pro, 1K / 2K$0.15$0.030−80%
Nano Banana Pro, 4K$0.30$0.033−89%

Nano Banana 2, 2K$0.12$0.038−68%
Nano Banana 2, 4K$0.16$0.056−65%

fal states that Nano Banana Pro 4K is charged at double the standard rate and that Nano Banana 2 charges 1.5 times at 2K and 2 times at 4K; the 2K and 4K figures above apply those multipliers to the listed $0.15 and $0.08[1]. The reAPI figures are the Default variant on each model page[8][9].

When fal is still the better fit

Price is not the only reason teams pick fal. It hosts a larger catalog than reAPI, lets you deploy your own models on its GPU fleet, and does not bill cold starts on its Model APIs[1][2][3]. If you need a model reAPI does not carry, or you run custom weights, fal remains the practical choice. The comparison above is about the models both platforms list, where the per-unit gap is large enough to matter at volume.

FAQ

Is fal AI free?

Not as a standing plan. fal grants free credits and coupons case by case, and they expire anywhere from one week to one year after they are issued. Beyond that, every request is paid from credits[2].

Does fal AI cost money?

Yes. Each model is billed per image or per second of video from prepaid credits, and purchased credits expire 365 days after purchase. Seedance 2.5 at 720p, for example, lists at roughly $0.4730 per second[1][2].

Is fal AI API free?

No. API calls draw on the same credit balance as the playground, at each model's listed rate. Server errors are not charged, but client-side errors such as HTTP 422 can be if GPU time was already used[2].

Is fal AI legit?

fal.ai publishes per-model prices, API documentation, a billing FAQ and a support channel, and it sells both hosted models and GPU capacity[1][2][3]. As with any provider, run a small paid test before moving production traffic.

Is fal AI safe?

fal's FAQ tells developers never to put an API key in client-side code and to route requests through a server-side proxy instead[2]. Review its data retention settings against your own requirements before sending sensitive inputs.

Is fal AI down?

This article cannot show live status. A common reason requests appear stuck on a new account is the concurrency limit: new fal accounts process 2 requests at a time, and extra requests wait in a queue until a slot frees up. The limit rises automatically to 40 as you buy credits[2].

Choosing between fal AI pricing and a cheaper alternative

Fal AI pricing is reasonable for a wide catalog and custom GPU work, and its rules on cold starts and server errors are clear. For the models both platforms list, though, the October 5, 2026 rate cards favor reAPI by 16% on Wan 3.0 Prime and up to 89% on Nano Banana Pro at 4K. Run the same prompts on both, compare outputs and totals, and move the models where the gap is largest first. For Seedance, Wan 3.0 and Nano Banana workloads, reAPI is the cheaper alternative to fal AI pricing on list price.
