GPT Image 2 pricing update: dedicated image-to-image rates
Image-to-image requests on gpt-image-2-official now bill at dedicated i2i rates. Text-to-image realigns to official list pricing — several tiers come down
Effective September 1, 2026 (UTC), pricing on gpt-image-2-official has been realigned.
Image-to-image — any request that includes image_urls — now bills at dedicated i2i rates. Representative prices (per image, default quality):
| Size · Resolution | i2i price |
|---|---|
| 1:1 · 1K | $0.039 |
| 21:9 · 2K | $0.059 |
| 1:1 · 2K | $0.065 |
| 1:1 · 4K | $0.027 |
Higher quality tiers add a smaller fixed i2i component on top of their text-to-image price.
Why: this model is metered on actual token usage, and an image edit consumes several times the output tokens of a same-size generation, plus metered input tokens for every reference image. The old flat per-image price didn't reflect that.
Text-to-image rates realign to official list pricing as part of the same change — several tiers come down. No other model is affected, and nothing changes in your integration; failed jobs are refunded automatically as always.
