Wan 2.2 vs 2.5 vs 2.6 vs 2.7 vs 3.0: Every Wan Version Compared
Wan 2.2, 2.5, 2.6, 2.7 and 3.0 compared from Alibaba's docs: open weights, resolution, length, audio and API price per second, plus which version to use.

Alibaba's Wan video models split into two groups. Wan 2.1 and Wan 2.2 have public weights under Apache 2.0, so you can run them on your own GPU. Wan 2.5, 2.6 and 2.7 have no public weight repositories and are used through Alibaba Cloud Model Studio's API, and Wan 3.0, released on August 13, 2026, extends a single generation to 30 seconds.[1][2][3]
Between those points, each version changed one or two things that matter: audio from 2.5 onward, longer and flexible durations from 2.6, editing and reference modes in 2.7, and documents as input in 3.0. This guide lays out what Alibaba documents for each, version by version, as checked on November 4, 2026.

Sources: Alibaba Cloud Model Studio text-to-video API reference and model pricing; Wan 3.0 launch post; Wan-Video GitHub organization.[1][2][3][4] Model IDs are wan2.2-t2v-plus, wan2.5-t2v-preview, wan2.6-t2v and wan2.7-t2v. Prices in Alibaba's China (Beijing) region are lower and listed separately on the same pricing page.[4]
Wan 2.2: the open-weight version
Wan 2.2 is the newest Wan release you can download. The Wan-Video GitHub organization holds repositories for Wan2.1 and Wan2.2, both Apache 2.0; the Wan2.2 repository was created on July 28, 2025. No repository exists there for 2.5, 2.6, 2.7 or 3.0.[1] For which Wan 2.2 checkpoints fit which GPU, see our guide to Wan models that run locally.
Through the API, Wan 2.2 is the most limited version. wan2.2-t2v-plus outputs 480P or 1080P, every clip is fixed at five seconds, prompts are capped at 800 characters, and it produces silent video only. It is also the cheapest: $0.02 per second at 480P.[2][4]
Wan 2.5 and Wan 2.6: audio arrives
Alibaba's API reference says the Wan 2.5 and 2.6 series "generate videos with audio by default", while only the 2.2 and 2.1 series can make silent video. Both newer series also accept an audio_url, so you can supply a WAV or MP3 track of 3 to 30 seconds and have the video generated against it.[2] Prompts grow from 800 to 1,500 characters.
The two differ on shape and length. wan2.5-t2v-preview, still labelled preview, supports 480P, 720P and 1080P but only 5- or 10-second clips. wan2.6-t2v drops 480P and accepts any whole number of seconds from 2 to 15, defaulting to five.[2] At 720P and 1080P the two cost the same.[4]
Wan 2.7: more modes at the same price
Wan 2.7 keeps 2.6's 720P and 1080P tiers, its 2-to-15-second range and its per-second price, and Alibaba lists dated snapshots of the text-to-video model from April 25 and June 12, 2026.[2][4] The pricing page shows separate 2.7 models for image-to-video, reference-to-video and video editing (wan2.7-i2v, wan2.7-r2v, wan2.7-videoedit).[4] Alibaba's API examples for 2.7 also show multi-shot prompts with timestamps, such as "Shot 1 [0–3 seconds] wide shot".[2]
If you are choosing between 2.6 and 2.7 for plain text-to-video, the spec sheet gives no price reason to stay on 2.6.
Wan 3.0: 30 seconds and documents as input
Alibaba's August 13, 2026 launch post describes Wan 3.0 as generating up to 30 seconds in one pass, with duration recommendation and video extension. It adds documents as input for the first time (doc, xls, ppt, pdf, txt, key, pages, numbers and md, one file of up to 100 MB and 50 pages), alongside text, images, audio and video. Video editing is built in, so you can change visuals, plot or dialogue without regenerating the whole clip.[3]
The official prices are $0.05, $0.10 and $0.20 per second at 480P, 720P and 1080P.[3] On whether Wan 3.0 is open source, the Wan-Video GitHub organization had no Wan 3.0 repository on November 4, 2026; we track that question in Is Wan 3.0 open source?.[1]
Which Wan version to use
Our recommendation from the specs above:
- Self-hosting or fine-tuning: Wan 2.2, the only recent version with weights.
- Cheapest short silent clips through an API: Wan 2.2 at 480P.
- Clips with sound up to 15 seconds: Wan 2.7, which costs the same as 2.6 and adds image, reference and editing models.
- Longer stories, document input or a single 30-second take: Wan 3.0.
- 480P with audio: Wan 2.5 preview or Wan 3.0; 2.6 and 2.7 start at 720P.
For scale, a 10-second 1080P clip at the International list prices costs $1.50 on Wan 2.5, 2.6 or 2.7 and $2.00 on Wan 3.0. Wan 2.2 cannot make a 10-second clip in one request; two 5-second clips at 1080P cost $1.00 together, without audio and with a cut in the middle.[4][3]
FAQ
Is Wan 2.5 open source?
No public weights were available on November 4, 2026. The official Wan-Video GitHub organization holds model repositories for Wan 2.1 and Wan 2.2 only.[1]
Does Wan 2.2 generate audio?
Not through Alibaba's API. Alibaba says only the 2.2 and 2.1 series produce silent video, and they do so by default.[2]
What changed between Wan 2.6 and Wan 2.7?
For text-to-video, resolution, length and price are the same. Version 2.7 adds dated snapshots and separate image-to-video, reference-to-video and video-editing models.[2][4]
Using Wan 2.7 and Wan 3.0 on reAPI
reAPI serves two of these versions: Wan 2.7 Video at $0.074 per second at 720P and $0.121 at 1080P, and Wan 3.0 from $0.029 per second at 480P to $0.116 at 1080P, with 2K and 4K tiers listed on its page. Those rates were read from the model pages on November 4, 2026.[5] Wan 2.2, 2.5 and 2.6 are not offered on reAPI; for those, use Model Studio, or run Wan 2.2 yourself.
