FLUX 3 vs MiniMax H3: Keyframes, Audio, and Cost

Choose FLUX 3 or MiniMax H3 by duration, keyframe control, continuation, resolution, local weights, license limits, native audio, and current API cost.

Choose FLUX 3 when the shot needs three or more timed keyframes, native video-and-audio continuation, or a cheap Draft-to-final loop. Choose MiniMax H3 when hosted 2K output, lower short-shot cost, audio references, or access to downloadable weights matters more. There is no honest universal quality winner without running the same shot through both.[1][2]

The comparison turns on control surface and deployment, not release-reel aesthetics.

FLUX 3 has the more explicit timeline controls

FLUX 3 accepts one to ten ordered keyframes. One is a start frame, two are start and end, and additional images become evenly spaced moments in between.[1]

That is useful for a transformation with approved states: packaged product, opened product, assembled product, final hero frame. The API knows the order from the array.

H3 supports first and last frames and mixed image/video/audio references, but it does not expose the same “ten ordered moments across the timeline” contract. H3's advantage is broader reference media: up to nine images, three videos, and three audio files can direct one generation.[2]

Use keyframes to pin when a visual state occurs. Use mixed references to define what the scene, movement, and sound should resemble.

The duration gap is five seconds

FLUX 3 reaches 20 seconds. H3 stops at 15. The difference can remove one join from a 16–20-second shot, but it is not enough to make FLUX 3 a long-video generator.

For a 45-second edit, H3 needs at least three 15-second clips and FLUX 3 at least three clips as well. For a continuous 18-second dialogue shot, FLUX 3 can attempt it once while H3 must add a cut or shorten the scene.

If 30 seconds in one generation is the actual requirement, neither is the direct answer; compare Seedance 2.5 or Wan 3.0.

H3's 2K tier and FLUX 3's FHD tier are not identical

H3 offers a hosted 2K option; FLUX 3 offers FHD. Pixel labels do not tell you which one preserves a particular face, product label, or camera move. They do tell you that output dimensions and cost should be tested separately rather than treating “high resolution” as one shared tier.

A good comparison generates the same five-second shot at H3 768P and FLUX 3 HD first, then reruns accepted prompts at the higher tier. Starting at maximum resolution confounds prompt failure with resolution spend.

Current API cost

For comparable base generation rather than continuation:

FLUX 3's Draft is cheaper than H3 for disposable concept checks, but a finalized Draft adds the normal render charge. For a direct final, H3 is cheaper at the displayed tiers.[3][4]

The table is a budget comparison, not a claim of equivalent quality or pixel dimensions. H3 can also bill source-video duration and additional reference images in some request shapes. FLUX 3 continuation uses its own higher tier. Price the actual payload.

Audio changes the workflow

Both generate audio. FLUX 3 can extend an existing video's picture and soundtrack together. H3 accepts external audio as a reference and generates native stereo dialogue, music, ambience, and effects.[1][2]

Choose the input that exists:

  • An existing clip must continue without an obvious audio seam: test FLUX 3 continuation.
  • A song, voice, or sound reference should direct a new shot: test H3.
  • The prompt merely asks for ambient sound: both qualify; run the same line and score it.

Vendor demos cannot answer accent, name pronunciation, or whether a particular product term survives. Those need a fixed dialogue and audio test set.

Local deployment is the largest non-quality difference

MiniMax released H3 weights. FLUX 3's announcement describes an open-weight FLUX 3 Dev phase after the video, action, and image rollout; the current video API release is not the downloadable Dev checkpoint.[1][5]

H3's weights come with a license condition that many summaries miss: the MiniMax H3 Community License excludes the United States, European Union, United Kingdom, and South Korea from its applicable territory unless separate authorization is obtained.[6]

So “H3 can run locally” is technically true but not the full deployment answer. Check territory, commercial terms, GPU memory, inference speed, and operations. The H3 local-versus-API guide separates those costs.

Which should you test first?

  • FLUX 3 first: three-plus keyframes, existing video/audio continuation, 16–20-second shot, many cheap Drafts before one final.
  • H3 first: 2K hosted output, audio references, lowest direct cost for a short shot, or a legally valid local-weight deployment.
  • Test both: dialogue, photoreal people, product identity, typography, or any quality claim that cannot be inferred from the schema.

Both use the same asynchronous task pattern on reAPI: FLUX 3 and MiniMax H3.
