Seedance 2.5 Status: API Access, Pricing, and Limits

Seedance 2.5 is live. See the reAPI model ID, 480p/720p pricing, 30-second output, reference limits, and source-video billing rules.

Seedance 2.5 is real, official, and now callable. ByteDance introduced the production model on July 31, 2026, and reAPI exposes it as doubao-seedance-2.5-face with 480p and 720p output.[12][13][14] The earlier Volcano Engine preview correctly signaled 30-second continuous generation, expanded multimodal references, and segment-level prompt control.[1]

Back in June I covered the Seedance 2.1 rumor and its same-day denial. The denial held: there is no Seedance 2.1. The real successor skipped a version number. This post now separates the live Seedance 2.5 API contract from older press retellings and scam claims. One spec in particular, the "native 4K" headline, still does not survive a check against the production route, which accepts 480p, 720p and (since August 2026) 1080p.[14]

TL;DR

  • Official and callable. ByteDance published the launch on July 31, and reAPI now serves doubao-seedance-2.5-face.[12][13]
  • What ByteDance itself confirms: 30-second coherent single-generation video, more reference inputs (official examples show up to 11 images), per-segment prompt control, deeper controllable editing, multilingual output[1].
  • What only the press says: native 4K at 10-bit, 50 reference inputs, +20% prompt adherence[4][5]. None of it appears on any ByteDance-owned page, and Seedance 2.0 already offers 4K officially[6], so treat the 4K headline as suspect.
  • The July 3 benchmark snapshot had no 2.5 entry. That dated absence should not be presented as a current leaderboard claim.[7][8]
  • reAPI pricing is published. No-source rates are $0.118589 per output second at 480p and $0.266824 at 720p; source-video rates are $0.071153 and $0.160094 per billed second.[13]
  • Seedance 2.0 Mini is also live, now from $0.038 per output second without source video or $0.024 per billed second with one at 480p.[9]

What ByteDance itself has put in writing

The original Volcano Engine promotion described "Doubao Seedance 2.5" around four pillars: 30-second narrative generation in one pass, expanded all-modality reference input, second-level control through segmented prompts, and deeper controllable editing with multilingual text rendering.[1] The later production contract supplies what that preview lacked: a model ID, 480p/720p/1080p output, reference limits, and billing rules.[13][14]

The release date is no longer a forecast. ByteDance's Seed team published its introduction on July 31, 2026.[12] Older “releasing in July” cards and “launching soon” banners are useful as history, not as the current availability signal.

On July 3, Seedance 2.5 had not yet appeared in ByteDance's Seed blog, model list, or pricing documents. That snapshot is now superseded by ByteDance's July 31 launch post and the live reAPI model and documentation pages.[12][13][14]

The 4K claim has a problem

Press coverage of the FORCE announcement added numbers the preview page did not state: native 4K output at 10-bit color depth, up to 50 reference inputs, and a roughly 20% improvement in prompt adherence.[4][5] The live reAPI contract has since confirmed the 50-reference ceiling—30 images, 10 videos, and 10 audio clips—but not 4K.[14]

Here is the wrinkle: Seedance 2.0 already generates 4K, officially. Volcano Engine's shipping documentation for the current model lists 480p through 4K output, with 4K delivered in 10-bit H.265[6]. "Audio generated jointly with video" is likewise ByteDance's existing description of Seedance 2.0, not a 2.5 novelty. So either the press compressed a briefing carelessly, or ByteDance's presenters padded the new-model section with current-model capabilities. Both happen.

The claims now backed by both launch material and a production route are 30-second single-pass generation, a 50-reference ceiling, per-segment prompt control, and edit or extend workflows.[12][14] Seedance 2.0 tops out at 15 seconds and 9 images plus 3 videos and 3 audio clips.[6] The 4K/10-bit claim does not carry over: the 2.5 route accepts 480p, 720p and (since August 2026) 1080p.

Fifty documented references move the workflow beyond simple style guidance: a request can carry a character sheet, product views, motion clips, and audio cues together. The practical limit may be lower for a particular prompt, so start with the smallest reference set that defines the scene.

What the pre-launch benchmark snapshot showed

As of the article's original July 3 check, neither cited video leaderboard listed a Seedance 2.5 entry.[7][8] That dated result cannot establish the current leaderboard status, and the live API means third parties can now run reproducible tests.

What the boards do show is the bar the successor has to clear, because Seedance 2.0 still owns them:

  • Artificial Analysis, text-to-video: Dreamina Seedance 2.0 (720p) ranks #1 at Elo 1,222, and the 71-point gap to second place is the largest lead on the board[7].
  • Artificial Analysis, image-to-video: #1 at Elo 1,195. Sora 2 does not appear on that board at all[7].
  • LMArena, image-to-video: #1 at 1,474 on nearly 82,000 votes; Veo 3.1 (audio, 1080p) sits at 1,391[8].
  • LMArena, text-to-video: #2 at 1,466, behind only a preliminary-tagged Gemini Omni Flash running on a fraction of the votes[8].

A successor to the consensus #1 video model is genuine news. It also means Seedance 2.5 launches into expectations its own family set, and blind-test voters will not grade it on a promo page.

The rumor pile and the scam pile

Credible-but-unverified, clearly labeled:

  • 180-second clips in the enterprise beta. One beta tester's social post. Plausible, unconfirmed.
  • API access around July 10. That unsourced date was wrong; ByteDance published its introduction on July 31, and reAPI access is now live.[12][13]
  • Per-second pricing guesses. The old $0.022–$0.50 range is obsolete. reAPI's live price is $0.118589/s at 480p or $0.266824/s at 720p without source video.[13]
  • China-first rollout. Sourced to announcement coverage[4], and consistent with the docs portal's July date[2]. The global timeline beyond that is guesswork, and Seedance 2.0's own global rollout paused for a month over copyright disputes before resuming everywhere except the United States[10].

Then the scam pile. Within days of the announcement, lookalike sites selling "Seedance 2.5 access" appeared, and community posts repeated suspiciously similar “hands-on” claims. A live API now exists, so the useful test is no longer whether any endpoint exists: verify the exact model ID, documented parameters, rate card, and refund behavior before paying a reseller.

What the June rumor cycle got right

One month before the original article, the open questions were Seedance 2.1's "20% quality bump" and a lighter Mini tier. Scorecard: the Mini half shipped. Seedance 2.0 Mini is live on reAPI at $0.038/s for 480p and $0.082/s for 720p without source video, or $0.024 and $0.050 per billed second with source video.[9] The 2.1 half resolved differently: the denial held, and the real successor arrived as Seedance 2.5.

Two lessons carry forward. Platform-side sourcing about the Seedance family has a decent hit rate. And ByteDance denials are worth reading narrowly; they deny the story, not the roadmap. Both now apply to the July rumors about Seedance 2.5's API timing.

Running Seedance 2.5 today

The practical question is which member of the released family fits the job. Keep the harness portable, but route on capability rather than treating 2.5 as a universal replacement.

The full Seedance 2.0 lineup runs on reAPI, with rates from $0.024 per billed second for Mini 480p with source video to $0.780 per output second for Face 4K without one.[9][11] It remains the higher-resolution and lower-cost option.

Seedance 2.5 on reAPI is now callable as doubao-seedance-2.5-face. Use it for 16–30-second takes, larger reference sets, and edit or extend workflows; keep Seedance 2.0 for 1080p/4K and cheaper tiers.[13][14]

FAQ

Is Seedance 2.5 released?

Yes. ByteDance published the launch on July 31, and reAPI now exposes the callable model ID doubao-seedance-2.5-face.[12][13]

What is officially new in Seedance 2.5 versus Seedance 2.0?

Seedance 2.5 adds 30-second single-pass generation, up to 30 images plus 10 videos and 10 audio clips, per-segment prompt control, and edit or extend workflows.[12][14] The widely reported 4K/10-bit spec belongs to Seedance 2.0; the live 2.5 route stops at 720p.[6]

When will the Seedance 2.5 API be available?

It is available now on reAPI. Use doubao-seedance-2.5-face with the video-generation endpoint and validate requests against the live 480p/720p/1080p schema.[13][14]

How much will Seedance 2.5 cost?

On reAPI, Seedance 2.5 costs $0.118589/s at 480p and $0.266824/s at 720p without source video. Source-video rates are $0.071153/s and $0.160094/s, with billable seconds equal to max(output + ceil(total source-video duration), ceil(5 / 3 × output)).[13][14]

Can Seedance 2.5 really generate 30-second videos?

Yes. The live reAPI route accepts up to 30 seconds.[14] Quality across the full take still needs testing on representative prompts and references; “30 seconds of 4K” remains wrong because the production route supports only 480p and 720p.

What are the expanded reference inputs for?

Consistency at production scale: characters, locations, props, motion, and audio references attached to one generation. Seedance 2.0 accepts up to 9 images, 3 videos, and 3 audio clips;[6] Seedance 2.5 raises those limits to 30, 10, and 10 on reAPI.[14]

Is seedance2.ai or any "Seedance 2.5 early access" site official?

No. Those lookalike domains are not ByteDance. A third-party API can be legitimate, but verify its actual model ID and documentation; reAPI's production identifier is doubao-seedance-2.5-face.[14]

Will Seedance 2.5 be available in the US?

Unknown. Seedance 2.0's global rollout paused in March 2026 over copyright disputes and resumed everywhere except the United States[10]. Nothing announced so far says whether Seedance 2.5 changes that.

How to be ready for launch day

The pre-launch unknowns are now narrower. Seedance 2.5 has a callable model ID, exact 480p/720p/1080p rates, documented reference limits, and a billing formula; native 4K is still not part of its production route. Keep prompts portable, run Seedance 2.5 against your own footage, and let accepted-output rate—not an old preview headline—decide whether it replaces Seedance 2.0 for a given workload.
